Khichdi/Lentils and Rice with coriander leaves


Add 2 tbsp of oil.

Add 3 medium size onions.

Add 1 tsp of red chilli powder, cumin powder, all spice powder and salt.

Add 1/4 cup of dal moong.

Mix well until dal moong is crunchy and crispy.

Add 1 and a 1/2 cup of rice.

Add 1/4 cup of water.

Add 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds.

Add 1 more cup of water.

Cover the lid of deep cooking saucepan for 5mins.

Once rice has absorbed the water and are half cooked and half crunchy, cover the lid again and cook the rice for 20mins in low heat flame.

Garnish the rice with coriander leaves.

Your Khichdi is perfectly ready.


Preparation time – 30mins.

Serves 5 – 6 persons.

  4. Can you use lentils for this recipe or does it need mung beans?
